Indian Techie under President Donald Trump

Ten years ago, in the mid of June-July of 2006, Indian Engineers in the USA went on a strike in large numbers.

Indian Protest

Indian Techies reported sick to work as per the foreign contract workers regulations which prohibited them from going on any kind of strike in the USA. The idea of the strike was only to gain some attention of the George Bush Government towards the entrapment of Indian techies and they are forcefully tied to their work due to the visa sponsored employer. Almost every  American company overlooked the treatment that are meted out from the government policies and the foreign contract workers , which made them vulnerable. By abusing the foreign worker’s rights  by underpaying them  and suddenly the worker strike was alarmingly rampant that eventually spreading across the United States of America like a contagious disease.

The solo purpose of this strike was an attempt to be heard and be a part of the USA inclusive growth, not to oppose and revolt against the government,

Which results American start testifying foreign worker against the indentured nature of the visa program which need to be sorted out as the bridge gap between  the growing digital divide was acknowledged.

And shortly, the first bipartisan H-1B and L-1 visa reform bill was introduced. This was Ten years ago and still the worse, digital divide continued in the USA .

Presently, things are totally different. Donald Trump elected President has finally given a stern warning, as he has promised before the election, “he’ll end forever the use of the H-1B visa as a cheap labor program” –  specifically by the off-shore companies who regularly abusing the visa program. Trump decided to work with the Republican Senator Grassley, who was in 2007, and proposed the new H-1B and L-1 Visa reform bill under the ‘The H-1B and L-1 Visa Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act’. Senator Grassley said -“We’re closing loopholes that employers have exploited by requiring them to be more transparent about their hiring and we’re ensuring more oversight of these visa programs to reduce fraud and abuse.” The main agenda of this proposal, was to once again restore the Good faith in hiring by giving the right to a job to American workers first, before petitioning for an alien worker from abroad’.

The main idea of national solidarity presently is totally dependent on the International Cooperation. True solidarity of America begins with the solitary worker and the Uncle Sam, from the last two decades has alienated a foreign contract workers to create a humongous digital divide between the two classes of workers -those having rights, and those without.

Under the Trump’s leadership, efforts will made to restrict the foreign company from petitioning the alien foreign workers for a work visa, as most of the companies have been underpaying their sponsored employees, as the result labor arbitrage has been favorable in displacing the American workers from employment.

Mr Donald Trump has also recognized the America’s need for high skilled foreign workers in the STEM fields, and specifically mentioned the Indian students, by  saying smart foreign students who are educated in the USA should be allowed to work, and settle in the USA.

While evaluating proposals for immigration reform –security, equality, family and community are the watchwords used by human rights activists. And any proposals that deny people their rights or benefits because of their visa status moves away from equality. Forthcoming visa reforms promises to treat guest workers with respect and dignity.
